What is PAIN and why pills are a trap!

It's all in your head...

Throughout medical history, pain was considered a biological process from tissue damage and inflammation. The answer was to block the pain with pills or surgically fix it. This approach was limited. When it didn't work, the patient was told the pain was "all in their head".

I WAS THAT PATIENT!

In my 20's, I suffered from headaches EVERY DAY for 3-1/2 years! My doctors prescribed drugs, ran blood work, and scanned my brain. Nothing worked! Finally, my doctor called me at work and told me that the tests found nothing, therefore I did not have headaches. WHAT?!

What is the new model of pain?

The biopsychosocial model of pain was introduced in Science magazine in 1977. This model considers all factors that activate pain signals in the body including stress, anxiety, depression, social, behavioral, and lifestyle. Pills and surgery only block one pain pathway. This is why they have a less-than-stellar track record.

So, what should you do?

A multi-dimensional lifestyle approach makes a difference in pain outcomes because nutrition, psychological balance, and physical resilience modulate multiple pathways and organ systems.

We can help guide you towards a healthier life with less pain and more vitality with our MSK Solutions Pain Recovery Program - a nutrition and lifestyle program designed to help reduce pain signals while eliminating the underlying causes of inflammation.
